About Me
I’m a foodie fanatic, living in Hampstead, North London. An erstwhile social anthropologist (I read Archaeology and Anthropology in the hallowed halls of Cambridge University – where I learned that all we know and are is one big cultural construction and that tea can save the world), I love to travel and explore new places, but I often think I don’t see enough of what’s right on my doorstep. Despite having lived in New York for a year, I have never eaten pastrami-on-rye, seen Sex and the City being filmed or sworn at a taxi driver. However, I did become an expert on where to find the best free bars in Manhattan and how to order everything with an American accent.
I love stories (especially ghost stories), interesting restaurants, great wine, the seaside and discovering ‘hidden gems’. I’m also a big fan of baking and cooking up all kinds of food (usually pretty healthy) – although I prefer the ‘gut instinct’ approach rather than scientific accuracy when it comes to recipes. I love fish and seafood, but don’t eat meat so you won’t find much of that here.
In my spare time, I enjoy talking at a speed just below that of light, reading (especially guide books), baking cakes, eating cakes, singing, trying to knit, learning new stuff, watching Midsomer Murders and/or Most Haunted with a good full-bodied red wine and have also been known to go for a quick run at lunchtime. I’m also a qualified massage therapist and have a keen interest in health and fitness.
In terms of my career, it finally dawned on me that I was supremely unlikely to make it in the world of hedge fund high finance by counting on my fingers, even if they do have very nice champagne. After briefly considering careers as a sommelier, cupcake baker, reviewer of 5 star hotels and West End superstar I settled on PR with hobbies, which I have been doing for the last three years.
Little known fact: I’m fascinated by history, am a massive fan of the National Trust and would secretly like nothing more than to don an Elizabethan gown and sweep down a marble staircase.
